Belgave has been greatly inspired by the simplicity of the rural life in his hometown, especially by its sensitive but strong women.
His paintings have wide expanses of blank space, the surfaces of which have innovative textures. A few abstract forms weave their way through this surface. The stylised figures eloquently convey the theme of love, through their subtle yet expressive gestures. Many of Belgave's canvases are framed in raw wooden frames, made out of the window and doorframes of houses in his hometown of Latur.
But over the years,in a more conducive Mumbai environment, his work have brightened and improved tremendously ,and he is now well considered by the discerning collectors who have his work ,now vijay continues with the busts of women and men,but highlights the features with sharp lines.Like a spotlight brightening parts of the face, and keeping the rest an almost a haze.the effect is very dramatic, contrasting with the softness and serenity of the expression on the face light and shadow, contemplation and joy, life and thought.A complete colour range from pastels to earth tones to bold bright hues.
He had several shows in India and abroad.
