Kusbudiyanto is an Indonesian visual artist whose work explores social narratives, cultural memory, and material experimentation. Using acrylic and mixed media, he creates layered compositions that reflect everyday life, community dynamics, and belief systems through a blend of figuration and abstraction. His process emphasizes texture and accumulation, symbolizing how identity and social history are formed over time.
His work has been exhibited internationally, adapted by a chocolate company in England, and featured in a collaboration with a Dutch author. Kusbudiyanto sees painting as a bridge between personal and collective experience, using it to visualize the complex structures and shared memories that shape society.
My artistic practice is rooted in observing everyday social life—its conversations, rituals, labor, and gestures—and translating these into layered visual narratives about identity, memory, and belonging. Working with acrylic and mixed media, I use texture and accumulation as metaphors for the way communities are shaped through overlapping histories and experiences.
My compositions combine figuration and abstraction to express emotional and social intensities rather than literal scenes, using color, distortion, and density as narrative tools. While grounded in local contexts, my work seeks to reveal universal aspects of collective life. For me, painting is a form of mediation—bridging personal and communal experience—and a way to make visible the often-unspoken forces that shape society.
