Chandra Bhattacharya
| Chandra graduated from the Indian college of Art and Draftmanship, Kolkata and work with Economic times as their graphic designer before turning to painting as a full time artist. His paintings are markedly influnced by the rural and tribal themes, he has closely interacted with, especially the famed 'Santhal' tribe of Kolkata..The interesting use of colors immediately strikes a chord with the viewer. Chandra Bhattacharjee's canvases give a feeling of languor and seem very distant from the urban world. Dusky female and male forms live in an ethereal world far from the madding crowd, carrying out their daily chores. The colours in Bhattacharjee's paintings are at once, restrained and lively. Affectionate hues of pink, strong bodied blues, intermingled with blank areas, pacify the senses. The painter uses the technique of crosshatching in black over the colour, adding dimension to his paintings. The painter’s world is without borders, where worldly and surreal creatures coexist in harmony. He has participated in over 15 solo shows. His works have been exhibited in major cities of India as well as internationally at Seoul, Munich, Tokyo, New York, London,Singapore and at adana Biennale Turkey, Imprints- The Ueno Royal museum Tokyo and X1 Indian Triennale India. At these shows and during auctions held by Emami Chisel, Bonhams and Saffronart amongst others, his works have been picked up for important private and public collection. The artist lives and works in Kolkata, India.... |
