This painting “Song of the village” is an outstanding work by artist Laxman Aelay. He is known for his nostalgic paintings that depict the people that he grew up amongst, in his ancestral village of Kadirenigudem in Telangana. His muse has been the live of poverty stricken people from his village and specific culturality of a village with men, women against the backdrop of their homes. This painting is one of the most recognizable works in black and white compositions, against brightly painted backgrounds such as red, green and yellow. His latest works are monochromatic, much smaller and compact.
