Nupur Kundu
The artistic aspect of life struck her natural instinct by way of her obsession with
painting and dancing in the formative years of her childhood. The cultural environment of Springdale’s
School in Delhi nurtured her talent further.
She joined the College of Art, New Delhi in 1993 for her BFA degree in painting. The aesthetic environment
of the college helped her realize her dream on a professional level. She also kept her dancing instinct alive
by completing her Sangeet Bhaskar in Indian classical dance (Kathak), and has several dance performances
to her credit.
Nupur has participated in several exhibitions both in India and abroad. Apart from exhibiting in India, her
works have travelled to Dubai, Singapore, USA and Mauritius. She also held a solo art exhibition at the Art
Indus, Santushti Complex, New Delhi in April 1999.
She has held two-man shows at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2001 and at Surya Gallery, Hyderabad
in 2000. She has conducted several workshops in painting for the British Council, New Delhi.

Featured in India Today Magazines 30th Anniversary issue among 30 young Successful achievers turning Thirty (December 2005). This artwork embodies the ineffable colors engage in furious dance
This abstract painting is an outstanding work by artist Nupur Kundu. The artist endeavor to embody in her work the ineffable in colors. The colors are given freedom to flow, move, and dialogue with each other, share inaudibly and even invisibly the mystery of their being. They carry no thematic burden nor are pushed into the straight – jacket of meanings. They are themselves – in purity, in intense and furious purity. They are a narrative into themselves primarily – ‘Colourscapes’. My work has always been non-representational. The colors in her canvas engage in furious dance, dancing from once color to another. It is a pure dance creating significant patterns of movement and rhythm covering space without overshadowing it.
